High Five Film Camp opens doors to media industry careers

High Five Film Camp is back, and we’re stoked. Our students from last year’s iteration are continuing to grow as video producers, and we’re so proud of all of them! We wanted to take a moment to highlight one student, Gabriella Gallegos.

Gabby signed up for our Film Camp last summer not knowing exactly what to expect from the video production field. Her experience in Speech & Debate at Battle Mountain High School helped her realize she was interested in pursuing a career in broadcast journalism, but wasn’t sure what the experience would look like.

“I’m very grateful for the skills I was able to learn. Spending time outside with creative liberty to make something that I enjoyed making and that I was proud of was an amazing opportunity,” she said. “I'm glad that I took a risk to try something new.”

Gabby is now continuing to explore a career in media and develop skills early by volunteering as a student reporter with our ongoing opportunities through Game of the Week.

This summer, we’re gearing up to offer an even better experience for youth who want to discover and develop a passion for storytelling. Hosted at Harry A. Nottingham Park and surrounding areas from July 22-26, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., students will learn the fundamentals of video production and create their own short film.

Local youth ages 13-17 are welcome to apply. No prior experience in filmmaking is required, just a readiness to learn and a love of movies, TV or journalism.

Visit High Five Youth for more information and to apply.

Our energetic and patient staff organizes and teaches all camp curriculum, which is designed to give students the tools to continue their learning and creative pursuits beyond camp. Students also receive complimentary lifetime membership to High Five, which opens the door to additional workshops in advanced concepts and free camera and studio reservations.

Students will also be able to follow in Gabby’s footsteps and volunteer on productions after camp. These are designed to gain real-world production experience and portfolio clips, which are vital to pursuing a career in media. Camp will culminate with a screening for families to watch what students have created over the past week.

High Five Film Camp will take place at the Green Room at Avon Performance Pavilion at Nottingham Park. Detailed location information will be provided to students and parents as they become available. Camp tuition is $200, and students who can provide proof of free/reduced school lunch are eligible for scholarship opportunities. High Five Film Camp is subject to minimum enrollment requirements. All payments will be refunded if enrollment is below our minimum threshold.
