We want to take a moment to highlight one of our Community Producers! Catherine Dawsey finished her first year in film school in Los Angeles, she was determined to direct and produce a silent film starring her friends. But without school resources to use during shooting, Catherine needed equipment.

Equipment rental can cost hundreds of dollars per hour. But with High Five, she checked out gear at the best price there is: free. She was able to shoot her film, “The Necklace,” which is now available to watch here.

“Although it can be kind of daunting getting into production, the only way to fully learn about it is to dive straight into it and start making films,” Catherine said. “That’s what’s so great about High Five because you get the real life production experience but you also get to do it in a stress-free learning environment.”

Better yet, for those who don’t have experience in videography, we offer educational workshops to learn the basics of camera operations and video editing, which begin in September. Aspiring filmmakers – or anyone who wants to learn – can sign up for annual membership and an Orientation session to get started. No prior experience is required.

As a nonprofit community access media center, we believe that everyone has the right to free speech and self-expression. We provide you with the tools you need to tell your story. We also provide personalized mentorship and equipment reservations: just tell us what you’re interested in learning, and we’ll find a way to make it happen.

Newcomers should start by becoming a member and attending a virtual member orientation session. Registration and membership is required. Membership is limited to Eagle County residents or employees; free for residents of Vail and Avon, $25 for other Eagle County residents, $40 for a family of four and $50 for local nonprofits.
