If you're thinking about self-harming, first off let me say that you are absolutely valid for feeling like you do, no matter what you've been through or what you haven't. I'm not in your mind, so I have no idea what's going through your head right now, but I know what it's like to want to self-harm. I can't make you do anything, it's up to you to make this choice, but I'm just going to ask you to wait 5 minutes. Actually set a timer. Distract yourself for a solid 5 minutes, color or draw, try to read a book, do homework, watch a movie, blast music, absolutely anything to get you out of your thoughts. A lot of people self-harm because it's a way to control anything when everything feels completely out of control and overwhelming, give yourself some time to try to take back that control in a positive way. Self-harming can become extremely addictive, so I would advise just not even stepping down that road. For me, I thought that I needed to cut in order to be "valid" and identify as someone who had a mental illness, but I promise you that this IS NOT TRUE. How much, how little or if at all you self harm has no correlation between how sick you are. I promise. Please just wait 5 minutes before making this kind of decision. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything, email projectwecarecolorado@gmail.com or DM wecare_colorado on Instagram. You are worth living. Please just hold on. You matter. We care.
